Excellent piece Dr. Jones! I've never quite understood why people want to solely focus on diet or solely on exercise to reduce belly/visceral fat. Besides the fact that you can't spot reduce in general, optimizing both your nutrition and physical activity are going to be better together than either alone.

Then, as you pointed out, sticking with exercise and doing enough of the kind that will make a difference is often the missing element. I can't tell you how many times I've worked with coaching clients who couldn't stick with exercise because they picked something they hated just to try and torch calories, and how many thought walking their dog slowly for 10 minutes would do the trick.

I always say something is better than nothing, especially when you're working to establish a new habit, but at some point, you may need to be willing to go deeper to achieve your goals.
