Cost is not an ethical framework‼️

Farmers Weekly reports that ‘around 90% of pigs in England and Wales are stunned using high concentrations of carbon dioxide, with the remaining 10% mainly electrically stunned.’

The argument in the article is that banning CO2 would add major cost, create logistical headaches, and risk pushing more pork imports into the UK.

But cost saving is not a moral defence. If we are serious about animal welfare, the starting point is reducing suffering, then we build the practical route to get there.

If we want higher welfare, we have to pay for it and we have to protect it. That means a serious transition plan and it means refusing to outsource the suffering to other countries while we congratulate ourselves at home.
