Agro-ecological farmer Jyoti Fernandes farms at Five Penny Farm in Dorset, producing cheese, meat, cider, juice and preserves, and working with a local smallholders co operative that shares facilities and sells produce collectively.
She also co-founded the Landworkers’ Alliance, the UK chapter of La Via Campesina, a global movement representing over 200 million small scale food producers and rural workers.
“Local food is the best food to work with our landscapes, regenerate biodiversity, look after soils and support communities.”
This is not a lifestyle choice. It is food security built on real farms and real supply chains, which is why the LWA is mobilising against the three hectare threshold for SFI subsidies that shuts out many productive small farms and market gardens.
