Another density map — Deutschland’s time to shine.
We can see density rising along the Rhine valley, where Germany’s industrial base is with cities like Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Stuttgart, and Frankfurt.
Munich is a tad smaller than I thought it would have been, and Berlin much bigger. I’ve been to Berlin twice and it’s always felt small for a capital, but perhaps that’s just my use of London as the frame of reference.
Interesting how what would have been West Germany is a lot more even spread in density, while the East is so dominated by Berlin. The communists obviously weren’t so egalitarian when it comes to density! Though, I bet the real reason might be large scale migration of the population from east to west since the wall came down.
