We walked out on the balcony of our hotel suite and were greeted by a view of the Atlantic Ocean, the city streets and a beautiful rainbow!

This is EXACTLY how you want the first morning in a new vacation destination to begin!

This April we visited Sao Miguel Island in The Azores island chain for the first time. Ponta Delgada is the largest city in the Azores, with a population of 140,000 (about three times as many residents as the other 8 islands combined) but its retained a classic 1700’s architectural charm and we loved it in every way. We will likely go back next year.

One thing we especially liked are the #STREETS, many of which are cobblestone, with sidewalks made of custom lava rock tiles. OMG! Kind of transforms the whole “lets stroll around town” thing.
