The reason this photo is my favorite is this simple:
I saw our two wire fox terriers splashing in the surf south of Cocoa Beach Florida and my first though was “Man, I wish I could bottle up that joy and dispense it whenever I need a dose” and I saw how the area down by the water was reflecting the sky and my brain instantly knew I could capture this. The Aminus3 Photography weekly prompts have rewired my brain to always being open to the idea that a great capture might be right in front of me and for that I am eternally grateful. I had given up photography several years ago, and the AP3 prompts have me revitalized. I know I would have had fun with the dogs a year ago, but never captured this memory.
Our wire fox terrier Elmer was 8 months old last Christmas and so in 2025 he bloomed from cute, energetic puppy into this amazing national champion wire fox terrier who has broken every record in his dog performance sport of FastCAT, which is essentially a 100 yard dash for dogs. They chase a lure pulled by a high speed winch, and the events have a 100+ dogs at them, all having too much fun! We didnt even know the sport existed year ago, and now having our dog be a breed champion in it is something we will always cherish. So thats also why this photo is my favorite - it captured Elmer’s sheer joy while running and it happened in a place we had never gone until Elmer’s exploits got us to attend events in ten states.
