Finally read the NYT 21C movie list, and the only immediately obvious omission to me (without spending too much time thinking about this) is Scorsese’s Hugo. Not just because it’s way better than The Departed and didn’t counterintuitively inspire as much toxicity as Wolf of Wall Street. It’s simply a perfect film. Yet didn’t even make the readers’ 500 list.
