Don’t let anyone tell you that a Digital ID can prevent this.

It will only make things worse. Much much worse!!

As far as the “national technology reporter” of the taxpayer-funded ABC, I think you can probably figure out where she sits on the political spectrum through her looks alone (and a quick search of her name on any search engine will immediately confirm that).

She is also clearly a ‘diversity hire’ because when it comes to actual practical tips for people to protect themselves, she didn’t mention the most obvious advice of all:

USE 2FA (two factor authentication) on ALL your online accounts, not just banking. No exceptions (ever)!!

(A lot of her other advice is also fluff at best and utter nonsense at worst and would have been relevant maybe 15 years ago before everyone started doing most of their banking on their smartphone).

Ultimately though, you must understand that the Internet was NEVER designed for security. It was designed for resilience!

Therefore, things like this will ALWAYS happen if the incentive is high enough (and it definitely is with online banking obviously).
