The government’s answer is a national Digital ID scheme, which will be implemented by December 1, 2024 after the Digital ID Bill passed Parliament in May.

Digital ID will offer a convenient online method for Australians to verify their identity against the official record held by various government agencies rather than handing over passports and driver’s licenses.
