How many of you have experienced “imposter syndrome” in your life? Not sure if I even need to ask, because I’m sure a lot of us have at one point or another. But I was fascinated by how poet and essayist Ocean Vuong framed it during the latest episode of @yourmamaskitchen…
As you’ll hear him describe in this clip, Ocean doesn’t think of imposter syndrome as something negative. In fact, he doesn’t even consider it to be a “syndrome”, but rather an imposter “immune system”—something that helps his mind and imagination to stay in a healthy, ever-reflective state. That description stuck with me, and it has changed the way I view my own moments of feeling like an outsider.
This conversation with Ocean was so deeply insightful, and I’m grateful that he made the time and space to open up and share his origin story. Check out this episode of #YourMamasKitchen now on YouTube and wherever you get your podcasts. 🎙️
