I will note that the funk has a history of sprouting in unlikely places - often within the Midwest: Indianapolis (Babyface and LA Reid), Cincinnati, Ohio (The Isley Brothers), Tulsa, Oklahoma (GAP Band), Dayton, Ohio (Ohio Players, Zapp, Lakeside), Newark (George Clinton and Parliament).
