I expected another Timesian “budget” feature involving family money and income in the upper-middle class range. It’s not! This resourceful artist bought his house for $60,000 (about what my husband paid for our midcentury Colorado house when he moved here from DC in the 90s) and sourced renovation materials as cheaply as possible. Truly a poor artist’s masterpiece, this home. I’m inspired.
