! It’s Chinese New Year and the kids are home on holiday so I hope you won’t mind that I’m submitting an image from the archives.

I took this photo during the height of China’s Covid Zero days, when leaving the apartment to take a walk in the park felt like a potential threat to national security. This image makes me think of The Upside Down in Stranger Things. Even in these weird post-covid days, in fact, I’m not sure which way is actually up, or whether we’re inhabiting the real world or the upside-down one…
