A quick thought from the research rabbit hole this week:
TRT is being normalised online at a rate that should probably make clinicians a bit uncomfortable.
The current ACL literature is far from perfect, but it is enough to raise an eyebrow:
exogenous testosterone use associated with higher risk of primary ACL injury
injectable TRT before ACL reconstruction associated with higher revision risk
editorial commentary basically saying, “yes, this is concerning… but let’s not get ahead of ourselves on causation”
That’s probably where I land too.
Not panic.
Not pearl-clutching.
But definitely not “she’ll be right, mate.”
Particularly when so much of the online conversation is driven by aesthetics, confidence, and physique outcomes rather than actual medical need.
Am I the only one who thinks hormones are starting to get talked about far too casually?
