The Boilermakers tried to avoid the late-inning drama from the past two days, but couldn’t help themselves.
Purdue scored three times in the first inning, added two more in the third and was in a comfortable position at 5-0. However, Indiana didn’t go away and forced the Boilermakers to deliver clutch hits down the stretch.
Purdue swept the series against Indiana, winning Sunday 11-8 and maintaining its fifth-place position in the Big Ten standings.
The hero from the first two games - Brandon Rogers - came through again with a two-run triple in the bottom of the 6th, allowing the Boilermakers to regain the lead at 8-7. Purdue added three more runs in the seventh.
Avery Moore was 4-for-4 with two doubles, two home runs and drove in four runs and reached base five times. He was part of a 16-hit attack that included nine extra base hits. Jackson Bessette had three hits and 3 RBI.
Jake Kramer earned the save, pitching the last two innings.
It’s the first three-game regular-season sweep of the Hoosiers in 15 years.
Purdue is scheduled to face Ball State on Tuesday in Muncie and travels to Iowa - the three-game series is being played in Des Moines - to close out the regular season starting Thursday.
The Boilermakers can still climb into the top four spots and earn a bye in the Big Ten tournament but must finish ahead of USC or Oregon along with taking care of business against the Hawkeyes. USC and Oregon face off in a three-game series.
