I agree with your premise: "Canada gets to be a real country."
Thankfully, however with a surreal sense of itself (down here in the lower 48 we've got much to learn, though appreciation started in my well-spent yoot watching syndicated SCTV at weird hours on local So Cal terrestrial tv stations beamed or tubed from "the polka darlings da Schmenge Brothers 'all de vay from da dark side of the Balkans' and all the way out to west of Edmonton at SCTV mytho-poetic HQ in Melonville...."

He drew laughs as Guy Caballero, Count Floyd, Big Jim McBob and others on the famed sketch comedy show after Second City stints in Chicago and Toronto."

As an American descended from refugee parents and rest of surviving family from WW II with much of my Slovak Dad's side finding refuge in Canada (Montreal, so they now are tri or quadruple or more lingual as French is the Lingua Franca of Quebec) our family ties, especially my generation are pretty closely tied into Canadian Culture, Eh? Along with the Empire I find myself in, mostly gratefully and not yet dead like that surreal band & nomadic following of Bay Areans that just lost another key founding member and so is "Truckin'" no more (or at least until further notice...)
If ever a lower 48 band like the Grateful Dead should have hosted one of those weekly 60 or 90 minute late-night tv feeds from the civilized Great White North of the High Line and perhaps been "...blowed up real good...." Along with so many other reflected & refracted stars of our well-spent yoot! The thought of SCTV's own musical superstars such as that swingin' duo like the Lemon Sisters from the dark side of the Balkans dem Schmenges who were the subject of this documentary (well before Rob Reiner and the term mockumentary ever entered our lingua Anglia or Franca or Leutonian...)

"I had this film on another channel, but I'm restructuring the content of that channel and this no longer "fit."
"It's a great mockumentary from 1985 featuring the inimitable Shmenge Brothers from SCTV played by John Candy and Eugene Levy. It also features great appearances from SCTV regulars Rick Moranis, Robin Duke, and Catherine O'Hara with some fun narration from Dave Thomas."
"If this is ever released on DVD, this video will be removed from YouTube."
