The Al-Qassam Brigades officially announced the martyrdom of their official spokesperson, “Abu Ubaida.”

الَّذِينَ إِذَا أَصَابَتْهُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَالُوا إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ.

“Those who, when afflicted by calamity, say: Indeed, we belong to God, and indeed to Him we shall return.”

On Saturday evening, August 30, in one of the ugliest moments of betrayal, an informant reported the masked man’s location to the Shin Bet while he was visiting his family after a long absence. The Shin Bet did not deny the information; rather, it considered it a rare opportunity long awaited after 14 failed assassination attempts.

An emergency meeting was immediately convened with army leaders, and a decision was made to use aircraft specially prepared to assassinate resistance leaders. Despite knowing that he was present in a specific apartment, they bombed the entire building to ensure the hit and to take revenge on the entire family.

The attack used missiles loaded with internationally prohibited incendiary thermobaric bombs—munitions that release a cloud of explosive fuel into the air and then ignite suddenly, generating immense heat and lethal pressure that consumes bodies until they vaporize and sucks the oxygen from the space, leaving neither people nor stone alive.

Thus our hero was martyred, along with his wife and his children: Layan, Minnatullah, and Yaman. His pure body was completely vaporized, as if they intended to erase every trace of him.

Along with him, 40 members of his family (the Al-Kahlout family) and 30 civilians with no guilt were martyred.

He was martyred after fulfilling his trust and defending his faith and homeland with his blood. The nation mourned him; mosques and prayer niches mourned him; the battlefields mourned him.

We do not think that martyrs die; rather, they depart to bear witness over us. May God accept our martyr and forgive us for having failed him.
