A federal judge in Washington, D.C.—who was nominated to the bench by Donald Trump—has ordered Steve Bannon, a top Trump advisor, to surrender and begin his four-month prison sentence on July 1.  In 2022, Bannon was convicted of two counts of contempt of Congress, stemming from his refusal to appear before The January 6 Committee to answer questions under oath about his alleged key role in The Capitol Insurrection.

Among other inflammatory statements, Bannon had reportedly told Trump during the lead-up to the attempted takeover of the U.S. Capitol, “It’s time to kill the Biden presidency in the crib.”

The day before the Trump inspired riot, Bannon told the listeners of his podcast:  “Just understand this:  All hell is going to break loose tomorrow. . . . All I can say is:  Strap in.  You have made this happen, and tomorrow it’s game day.”

His conviction was upheld by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals last month.

Notably, on his last day in office on January 20, 2021, Trump pardoned Bannon who was then under federal indictment for allegedly defrauding donors to a private Trump-like “We Build the Wall” scam operation.

However, Trump’s pardon did not exempt Bannon from facing state charges in New York.  After pleading not guilty, he is scheduled to stand trial in September.  Juan Merchan, the courageous judge who oversaw the recent trial that ended in Trump’s conviction, will be on the bench.

In my opinion, next to Trump, Bannon is the most dangerous and nefarious character in American politics today.

The lawless, “everything is rigged unless we win” MAGA crowd must be so proud of the latest additions to their honor roll.
