Texans Must Guard Our Grid from Political Energy Agendas! Tell the Public Utility Commission to stop Blackstone’s takeover of TXNM Energy.

The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) faces a pivotal decision that could shape the state’s energy future for decades. Blackstone Infrastructure Partners, a global asset manager, is seeking approval to acquire TXNM Energy Inc., the parent company of Texas-New Mexico Power Company (TNMP). On the surface, this may look like an ordinary corporate transaction. But beneath the headlines lies a serious threat to Texas’ reliable, affordable, and independent energy system.

⚠️ Net Zero = A War on Texas Energy

Blackstone, like other large Wall Street firms, has proudly pledged allegiance to “net-zero” and “decarbonization” goals that demand cutting fossil fuel use, goals directly at odds with Texas’ energy interchange.puc.texas.g… its own 2024 Sustainability Report, Blackstone highlights its plan to “drive the energy transition” toward renewables and away from traditional fuels. Let’s be clear: this isn’t about innovation or market competition, it’s about control. Allowing a company that discriminates against fossil fuel investment to own a Texas utility is the same as allowing them to boycott Texas energy from the inside out.

🔍 The Pattern Is Clear, and Dangerous

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is already leading a multi-state lawsuit against BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard for conspiring to reduce U.S. coal production by using their shareholder power to enforce “green energy” mandates. These firms’ policies have distorted free markets, weakened American energy independence, and driven up consumer costs. Blackstone pursues the same “net-zero” agenda. These asset managers have pressured portfolio companies to: Adopt emissions targets far beyond legal requirements,Support shareholder proposals limiting fossil fuel use, and Maintain divestment policies against coal and natural gas. There’s every reason to believe Blackstone would do the same with Texas utilities, pushing politics over performance and ideology over affordability.

⚖️ Texas Law Already Discourages This

The Legislature foresaw this danger when it passed Senate Bill 13 (2021), banning financial institutions from boycotting energy producers. Approving this sale would defy the spirit of that law and hand control of part of our electric grid to a company aligned with anti-energy activism.

💪 The PUC Must Protect Texans

The PUCT has the power, and the duty, to stop this sale. Texas’ abundant oil, gas, and coal resources make our electricity both reliable and affordable. That legacy must not be placed in the hands of global financiers whose mission is to eliminate the fuels that built this state.

📅 The hearing on the merits of the sale is scheduled for December 15–16, 2025, and the PUCT still has time to act. Texas utilities must remain accountable to Texans, not to Wall Street asset managers pushing a political agenda that undermines our prosperity and energy security.
