MC S&P 500 Heatmap, 5/5/26: AI bid broadens into risk-on tape

The heatmap showed a cleaner risk-on tape than yesterday’s defensive wobble: all 11 S&P 500 sectors finished green, with tech and materials leading, while the chip complex gave the index its strongest visual impulse.

This was still AI/semiconductor-led at the core, but not purely mega-cap narrow; small caps outperformed, cyclicals participated, and lower oil helped remove the commodity/geopolitical drag.

Beneath the record close, the signal was expansion rather than rotation away from tech: AI leadership remained the engine, but the green spread across sectors made the move look more like broad risk appetite than a fragile one-factor melt-up.
