The app for independent voices

Today I met Beverly.

For nearly two years we’ve known each other online. She was my very first paid subscriber when I started this Substack, and she’s been part of the Breakthrough workshops ever since.

She was also one of the voices who encouraged me to keep writing about people over 60 reclaiming their dreams.

So when she bought this painting, I knew I couldn’t just ship it in a box.

I had to bring it to her myself.

Today I walked into her home carrying the painting, and we stood there looking at it together. After a moment the tears came. The quiet kind that happen when something lands deep in the heart.

Then we hugged.

Greg and I had to hurry down the road to pick something up for his son, so we couldn’t stay and visit like we would have liked. Beverly and her husband graciously invited us to stay, and I wish we could have. But even those few minutes were enough.

There is nothing that warms an artist’s heart more than knowing something you created brought joy to another person’s soul.

And today I got to say thank you to the woman who believed in this work from the very beginning.
