Portland Police Chief Bob Day broke down in tears after being forced to admit that the Border Patrol truck attack suspects are indeed Tren de Aragua associates. PPB knew of their names from a July 2025 investigation into a shooting in which the victim identified the assailants as TdA members. 

Border Patrol non-fatally shot the two Venezuelan illegal migrants in the incident, which prompted one-sided national wall-to-wall coverage and calls for federal agents to be killed as retribution. The city referred to the suspects as the "victims."
