Before January comes with it’s optimistic resolutions (many of which will fail), let’s take a moment to look back at the year and be grateful.

We are conditioned to seeing change in education as a backward step - less money, fewer teachers, ever changing external rewards: new curriculum, new Ofsted, new SEND white paper - new problems.

But it was the same last year and the year before that - the names were different, but the onslaught of problems kept coming.

And guess what? You coped. The world didn’t end, even though it might have felt as though it was spinning away from you.

Make a list of all the problems you overcame last year, and it might make you see yourself differently. It should do. You keep showing up and putting your best foot forward. Each year you climb a mountain - take the time to enjoy the view.

Anyone who works in schools is a minor miracle worker. You’ll work those miracles next year too. But hopefully with less anxiety.
