I’m a big fan of Malcolm Gladwell. He sends himself up as being attracted to Grand Theories of Everything.

I’m like that with teaching. If leaders (and then teachers) just looked at the impact on learning - not anything else - they would quickly learn under what conditions each technique works, and then whether it is worth making sure the school can develop those conditions.

Just look at how the class is learning, and adjust accordingly. That’s it and that’s all. (I’m also a fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger - but Fubar 2 is a step too far).

100% of techniques are done badly by many teachers in most schools because leaders and teachers keep inventing proxies for learning.

Find what you want students to know, the skills you want them to have, and just measure the changes in those two.
