It is so easy to become a stupid senior leader. The idea that teachers will become de-skilled because AI can do it better is ludicrous on every level. Let’s say that is true - if students learn more because AI helps them better than a teacher, are you going to insist students learn less so that teachers keep a substandard skill?
Are you going to ban driverless cars because otherwise people won’t learn to drive themselves? Or electric cars because otherwise we won’t be able to find enough of a market for oil? Will we stop doctors from using AI to read scans which will save more lives, because they will lose the skill of reading the scans themselves - that’s worth X number more deaths a year, surely?
The business of schools is helping students learn. There are ethics involved in how they learn - after all, we could beat students if they don’t perform, or melt their mobile phones in front of their eyes, or force them to walk in silent corridors, or give them an electric shock every time they get a cold call question wrong. AI is not in that league.
You’ve read this far? The idea that an English teacher only reads their students’ essays because they want the joy of writing all over them is laughable.
If you disagree, feel free to write all over this.
