It is mad that in the current English curriculum, we teach persuasive writing, but not logic. We need a curriculum that actively teaches the parts of argument, the flaws of logic, and the use of evidence, not as part of a specific essay plan for a specific subject, but as a framework for thought. In a sense, we need to rethink literacy as, in effect, a domain that teaches critical thinking.
