One of the earliest, quintessentially American sitcoms was "I Love Lucy". The show aired from 1951 to 1957, back when Americans were mainly white, tight-assed, racist misogynists. You know, when America was GREAT!

"I Love Lucy" was the most popular show on TV for many years of its run, often topping the ratings. And everyone did love Lucy — played by Lucille Ball, the Queen of Comedy. Reruns of the show are still running today, and it was a TV staple of mine as a child back in the 60s.

In the show, Lucy was a madcap housewife married to a Cuban bandleader and singer named Ricky Ricardo. The show centered on Lucy’s wild escapades, and Ricky’s New York nightclub, the Tropicana, was a frequent setting. Nobody seemed to have a problem with Ricky’s heavy Cuban accent or the fact that he often sang in Spanish at the club.

If only we could Make America Great Again by returning it to that era of bigoted tight-assedness... you know, a time where everyone enjoyed songs in Spanish.
