We walked up nearly 100 steps of a spiral iron stairway to see this view. (Which was no small feat because my daughter has a cardiac condition and I have a fear of heights—but it was worth it).

My first thought: We have to protect this.

My second thought: We don’t give lighthouse keepers enough recognition.
