Make money doing the work you believe in

Have been following my own advice to read the magazines I want to be in. Enjoyed Hannah Yang’s story in Uncanny, but can’t decide if the ending chickened out or not.

Basically it is about two girls who are refugees from the future. They travel back w their families to different times. And they promise to remember each other. At the end, our protagonist meets the other woman (now an old lady) but the lady doesn’t remember her! She took memory wiping drugs that erased her memory of their life in the future.

Feels kinda like this is breaking a promise to the reader. You know, this story is basically a riff on that movie, Past Lives. What is it like to remember a different life in another place. Now at the end, the story promised us that we would see two perspectives on that idea, and we didn’t get it.
