Some pics from my recent visit to the stunning Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex with Dr Owen Emmerson. It was commissioned in the fifteenth century by Sir Roger Fiennes, Treasurer to the Household of Henry VI, and is one of the oldest brick buildings in England. In 1993 it was gifted to Queen’s University, Canada, by Alfred and Isabel Bader and today serves as a college and international study centre.

To access the inside of the castle, you need to join one of the guided tours which take place at midday each day. While the interior of the castle has been greatly altered over the centuries, our guide really brought the building's medieval past to life and was incredibly knowledgeable. Herstmonceux is definitely worth a visit if you're ever in the area.
