As an American who longs for a politics of the mythic, I believe spaceflight is an expression of America’s nature, a civilizational destiny embedded in our founding drive to push outward into the unknown. I think the fact that a mere sixty-six years passing between the Wright brothers’ first powered flight and man walking on the Moon is a feat that reveals the true voltage of the American spirit.
