Writers often talk about their research, but it’s always felt completely alien to what I’m doing. My books feel more like the outgrowth of a hobby, even the photography book, which probably involved the most substantial ingestion of new knowledge in the time I was writing it. If you’re interested in something, you burrow around and find out about it.
