This has some really good points. It is way too long a read to share as is, but it is important enough to circulate that I plead for an edited version. 🙏
The analogy about the house break-in is excellent. And powerful. “He moves to open the door” is chilling.
The point about wanting to fit in with the tribe stays. The three point summation of the interviewees’ views stays.
It needs to be cut by 2/3, and then it should go into large scale circulation.
It is the argument many of us have been making. Why those of us pointing at the threat and calling for action are ridiculed and silenced.
It is Don’t Look Up, isn’t it? Leonardo DiCaprio screaming into a void of condescension.
This is why humans are late to recognize danger. And prefer head down ignorance. Whether it is failure to call out child abuse in the home, or choosing to not report work colleagues’ cheating and bullying behavior, or ignoring government corruption on every level.
Those of us with the courage and absolute conviction of certainty have already seen the elephant, yes. But some of us haven't and we still have that courage and conviction. It is because we have imagination. We have the ability to imagine and draw conclusions from what is in front of us.
My favorite analogy is the Titanic. We are told people sat in their chairs sipping wine as the water climbed up their ankles, saying “It’s an unsinkable ship.”
But many of “us” were hauling lifeboats and hurrying to save as many as “we” could.
