On a community call, someone was expressing their deep sense of imposter syndrome around autism since they didn’t have a formal diagnosis. I decided to ask everyone: "If you've received an official autism diagnosis, do you still struggle with imposter feelings?"
All of us with formal diagnoses raised our hands. A diagnosis doesn't magically resolve self-doubt, or magically bring loads of services to our doorstep.
Given this, it’s common to wonder whether or not an assessment is worth it in adulthood. This month I sat down with Dr. Jessica Hogan, a fellow AuDHD psychologist, to demystify adult autism and ADHD assessments: where to start, what affirming assessment looks like, and the red flags to watch for.
