It's a rare treat for Macabre Monday to coincide with April Fool's Day. Pranks gone wrong is a notable plot-driving trope used to justify killing sprees in slasher films.

One slasher film that takes this trope and turns it on its head is the 1986 movie April Fool's Day. The central story follows a group of college students vacationing during April Fool's Day weekend on an island estate, where an unseen killer starts killing off the group one by one in gruesome ways. Or do they? I won't spoil the surprise ending here, but the movie is a clever meta-commentary on the slasher genre worth checking out.
