We’ve all heard the saying: Balance in all things

(especially if you’re a Libra).

In emotions.

Energy.

Work.

Rest.

Attention to self.

Attention to others.

Too much or too little of anything can be poisonous.

Goldilocks knew a thing or two about needing to be “just right”.

I’m talking about on a consistent basis.

I’m not talking about your emotions on wedding days and funerals; your energy levels during marathons and illnesses; your work:play ratio during crunch time and vacation time; your focus on self vs others while healing and caretaking.

Of course there will be times when you are required to go to extremes.

But if we’re extreme in too many things, for too long, we’re headed towards certain self-destruction.

Balance is a philosphy for survival, not just a pretty mantra.

When it comes to relationships (personal or global), balance can also mean understanding nuance.

The balance of black and white leads to shades of gray.

The balance of right and wrong is often the desire to understand each other rather than assign blame.

Because relationships are a collaborative experience.

One person never wins alone.
