Motherhood is hard. Sometimes excruciatingly so. But that’s not a bad thing.

The Weeds and Wheat of Motherhood

I have never been so busy or tired and I may never write again. And yet…

You made it, you own it

You always own your intellectual property, mailing list, and subscriber payments. With full editorial control and no gatekeepers, you can do the work you most believe in.

Anyone else worried about what Substack is turning into? My understanding was that it used to be a place for nerds like you and me to try our hand at writing. But it seems that within five minutes from now it’s going to be essentially another crowd funding hub for videos and audio which I fear will drown out the written word.

A reminder I made to hang on my writing desk after I finished the post I published yesterday

I’ve posted a Note every day for the last 51 days. So far, I’ve gained:

  • 221 subscribers

  • 1 person telling me to turn a Note into a book

I couldn’t have done any of it without

, , and their 30-day Substack Campfire Challenge.

For one, I was so excited to try all the great prompts Michael and Tom shared that I started early and kept at it.

For another, I met so many other great people and interesting Substackers from all walks of life that it was impossible to stop.

Fun and community. Those were the 2 things I felt above all, and when you’re starting to put yourself out there as a writer, be it on a new platform or for the first time ever, nothing else will keep you going like having fun and seeing that you’re not alone.

If you’re new on Substack, want to get into Notes, or plainly build a manageable writing habit in 30 days, I highly recommend you try the Substack Campfire.

The next challenge starts October 28, but, well, you can always start early ;)
