It’s been often remarked of the history of 20th century leftism that you could tell a lot about a particular person by when they got off the pro Soviet bus: Was it the Holodomor? The show trials? Hitler-Stalin Pact? The start of the Cold War? Invasion of Hungary? Invasion of Czechoslovakia? The fall of the wall? Each of these things marked a test of what you were willing to put up with to maintain your political allegiances. (Some Intellectuals, like Eric Hobsbawm, never got off the bus.)

I believe similar questions will be asked about conservatives with respect to Trumpism: You’ll be able to tell a lot about a person’s political ethics by when they got off the bus.
