I wrote a defence of personality-disordered women for Walt Bismarck in response to his recent “Why Women Don’t Have Agency”

Note: I appreciate this is not a popular take!

I am motivated by a desire not to simply exclude those people who send up “red flags” and to try to come to some understanding of why some people behave this way, and how men like Walt might have the energy/motivation to cope with women like Rebecca. As someone who has addiction/madness issues, I want a better discussion of these things than simply “run away”. I do think personal pathology ties into social and cultural tendencies, and certainly certain emotions and traits are being manipulated at scale - but in a “culture of narcissism” how do we treat people who are genuinely pathologically narcissistic, or histrionic, or borderline, etc.?
