Interesting debate - do the French prefer more leisure or are they prevented from working more by laws/regulations.

To counter the rebuttal - is there a consideration of having higher relative income? That is, I'd work more without regulations in order to be relatively richer. But then others would also work more, meaning I have to work more.

This ties in with a point made by Matt Bruenig - families choose to be two income households in part to have a high standard of living.
