A Beautiful Mess : The Review

Words by Rich Bower

A Beautiful Mess by Urias is a 10 track, 28 minute project that landed on our desks by recommendation; something we rarely entertain. But from the moment Viirgo’s Remorse opened the project, we couldn’t turn it off.

Categorized under “alternative” by Apple Music, A Beautiful Mess defies genre lines. Urias moves fluidly through sonic spaces, pulling from a palette that hints at PartyNextDoor’s moodiness, Chief Keef’s raw energy, and a trap heavy, experimental Drake. And yet, it’s all distinctly him.

With just three features and two collaborators, Urias keeps the focus sharp. The production is a standout; rich, cohesive, and full of intention. It’s clear we’re only scratching the surface of what this rapper producer hybrid is capable of. The entire project was self-produced by Urias, an impressive feat that’s becoming a common thread among many of the artists we’ve been working with or covering lately. It’s a reminder that true creative control often leads to the most distinct and personal work. With back to back releases in 2024; VRGO and THE LAST LAUGH!, Urias has made it clear he’s committed to the grind and fully embracing the journey that comes with the life and career he’s chasing.

Lyrically, the project explores themes of coming-of-age, relationships, money, ambition, and the tension between fast living and personal growth. Notably, the tape includes contributions from Not A Job Title alum Whar, and introduces us to a promising new voice in Jake Santana. Standout tracks like “HIIDDEN HILLS,” “H-TOWN SHIIT,” and “BANG!” had the office in unanimous agreement; a rare moment for our team. That kind of consensus is always a good sign. We love projects that spark conversation, whether it’s about replay value, production quality, or just pure energy. This one checks all the boxes.

We’ve genuinely never heard anything quite like this. Urias, you’ve got our full attention. We don’t know what’s coming next, but one thing’s clear: the games are over, the mess has been mastered, and the future’s looking brighter than ever. In hindsight, the chaos was nothing short of beautiful.
