Posting one of my occasional reminders that Belt Publishing is always looking for new books to acquire. High on our list right now:
—Cultural criticism/essays, a la our books by Phil Christman and Zito Madu (both with memoir components)
——memoirs that are also cultural criticism, like those by Raechel Anne Jolie and Erin Keane
—nonfiction focused on urbanism & architecture a la our books by Amanda Kolson Hurley, Daniel Kay Hertz, other people not on this site ;)
—Books about the Rust Belt/Midwest that have national appeal, a la The Great Black Swamp and The Last Children of Mill Creek
—Cartographers who want to map a city for our growing 50 Maps series (we’ve published 7 and under contract are Boston, Chicago, Philly, DC. Plenty of cities left!)
—cookbooks about a single ingredient (black walnut anyone?)
—for fiction we are not actively looking but will consider given our high and specific bar: under 80k, realist, set in the Rust Belt
—Go through our catalog and you’ll see we publish a wide variety of titles: they are almost all under 60K, but they are not all regionally-focused. Maybe you’re working on something that actually does make sense for us? And fyi we’ve run the table on prestigious awards recently (PEN, ALA, NBCC, Lambda).
We love to hear from authors and agents alike—
