Swapped: A Life-Changing Truth

A minister was sharing the message of Christ’s work on the cross with a group of fishermen on the English seashore. He asked them to explain, in their own words, what Jesus did on the cross.

An old seaman, with tears streaming down his weathered face, looked up and said: “He swapped with me.”

In that simple, yet profound statement, the old seaman captured the essence of the Gospel. Jesus bore our sins on the cross, taking upon Himself the punishment we deserved, and in return, He gave us His righteousness and forgiveness.

As the Bible says, “He bore our sins in His own body on the tree” (1 Peter 2:24).

The old seaman’s words echo this truth: Jesus swapped His perfect life for our sinful one, giving us new life in Him. What a beautiful illustration of the depths of God’s love and redemption!
