What does meaningful human oversight actually require?
From AI-triggered panic in patients to clinicians pressured to defer to algorithms, the discussion revealed a difficult truth:
Being present when AI speaks is not the same as having real authority over decisions.
I argue that genuine oversight requires three conditions: • Proximity to the decision • Authority to override • Time to reflect
