If I were a kid today, like 18-29 (though “kid” now runs all through that “key demographic,” 18-49), I would make totally selfish decisions. Live at home as long as possible, free riding on my mother’s pension, completely wrapped up in the anesthetizing entertainment around us, just watching my receding years lead inevitably into the void. It’s a natural enough response to an “after us, the deluge” cultural malaise — and even if it doesn’t happen, what do you lose? A life of duty, responsibility, and an obsession with reskilling and anti-fragility? I’ll keep on trucking now because I’m in too deep, but I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. Just chill, grill, touch grass, and hope that the last one in the room remembers to turn the lights out. “Don’t do the work” would be my NEET tagline.
obviously this is bad at a social level, but YOLO, in the long run we’re all dead, just rest and it’ll all be over soon
