Since I was going to be working from home anyway, one goal I had for the new year was to actually USE my ymca membership and start going to the gym more. Day 1, NOT at the gym mind you, I got up from sitting on the sofa, took a step and as I put my foot down realized my foot was asleep and numb. Instead of holding me, my foot rolled and I fell, hard, right onto my foot. Fun times. This was in the evening, so I waited to see if the swelling would go down overnight. It did, a little, but was still obviously hurt. So Tuesday morning was spent at the VA hospital where they determined that I had not in fact broken my metatarsal as initially suspected but I do have a sprain and potentially some ligaments that are hopefully not torn but just stretched out? So I’m wearing a brace and have toe wiggling exercises. Not exactly how I expected the year to start out, but I’m super grateful the bone isn’t broken. With a broken bone I couldn’t have driven, which would have caused a world of problems, not the least of which is that Gerd leaves for Germany today.
