Writing tip: Fact check ALL names of people, books, movies, shows, artwork, company names, branded products, etc. before submission. Pretend you’re a fact checker and have to make sure every word in a proper title or person’s name is correct (or that Jeopardy! would penalize you for a wrong answer).

This comes up often in our submissions inbox, and while we do our best to ensure proper spelling and capitalization, it’s very helpful for authors to do that work themselves before submitting. Just Google every proper name or entertainment property you’ve used in your essay before submission and make sure your spelling/punctuation match the official usage, which may be different from what media have used in the past.
