In a clip from a DeepMind documentary making the rounds online, CEO Demis Hassabis sits in a meeting with his team.

They drop some big news. AlphaFold, their AI, can now predict the structures of every single known protein

that’s roughly 1 to 2 billion of them.

And they say they could finish the whole job in about one month.

Hassabis doesn’t hesitate. He just looks at them and says two words:

“Do it.”

That quick decision turned an already impressive tool into something much larger.

It created a full database of protein structures that scientists everywhere can now use.

The impact has been huge. Biology research is moving faster. Drug development is picking up speed. And many other areas of science are getting a real boost.
