Make money doing the work you believe in

Google dropped Gemma 4 in an app that runs offline on your phone.

I tested it.

Downloaded 1.5 gigabytes once and now it just works. No internet. Works in airplane mode.

That part actually works like they said.

The thing that's weird is how fast it runs on phone hardware. Not cloud fast. But way faster than I expected from something sitting on your chip.

You can actually have a conversation without waiting forever between responses.

The privacy angle is real if you care about that.

Nothing leaves your device. But honestly most people are not that paranoid. What matters more is that you can use AI without needing a connection. That is actually useful. Sitting somewhere with no wifi, you can still ask it to summarize a document or look at a photo.

The agent skills part is incomplete. You can hook it to a few apps but nothing like what ChatGPT or Claude can do.

It feels like Google is early with this. But the local part works.

Biggest issue is the download size. Not everyone has 2 gigabytes sitting around on their phone.

And your phone gets warm running it.

It is a real product.

Not a gimmick.

But it is not replacing anything yet.
