Back in February, the Interior Department said it had opened up the federal public lands in the Dalton Utility Corridor for transfer to the state of Alaska.
And today, the agency announced that it has, in fact, transferred 1.4 million acres of previous BLM lands to the state.
These were public lands that connected three national wildlife refuges and one national park, protecting crucial migration routes for caribou and other wildlife, as well as the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System itself.
The goal, as per Secretary Doug Burgum, was "American Energy Dominance." Of course.
"President Trump is delivering on his commitment to unleash Alaska’s vast resources—advancing the Alaska Liquefied Natural Gas project, the Ambler Road, and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline—to strengthen our economy, bolster national security, and drive down costs for American families," Burgum said.
In their 532-word press release, "conservation", "wildlife," or "protection" were mentioned exactly zero times. On the other hand, the words "resource(s)," "economy" or "economic," and "energy" were used a combined twelve times.
